December 30, 2020: Response to NAFF’s letter to Mayor Fuller

In December, 2020 we sent a letter to Mayor Fuller to share our petition and the support of over 1,000 residents. We received a note back from Nicole Banks, the commissioner of Newton's Park, Recreation and Culture Department. The response lacked specific details on projects, timeline or budget. While there was an acknowledgement of the many challenges and a hint that CPA funding may be used for projects in the future, the message lacked urgency and a sense of priority. This is obviously a disappointment given these discussions have been going on for many years now.

In addition to the limited information on capital improvements, the maintenance budget of $75K (covering every athletic field in all of Newton) was presented as an improvement from prior years. This amount is well below any industry standard and the primary cause of poor field conditions.
